About Christian Science
Christian Science is practical, spiritual Christianity. Christian Science is universal, not denominational.
- Christian Science is Christian — compassionate, helpful, spiritual;
- Christian Science is scientific — based on divine Principle, its rules demonstrate its Science.
Mary Baker Eddy, who discovered this law (which Christ Jesus proved and taught), and named it Christian Science, defined it as “the law of God, the law of good, interpreting and demonstrating the divine Principle and rule of universal harmony.” (Rudimental Divine Science, p1)
She also wrote of it: “God’s law is in three words, ‘I am All;’ and this perfect law is ever present to rebuke any claim of another law.” (No and Yes p30)
It is explained fully in her book, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, which is the Christian Science textbook. Her other published works are:
- Prose Works (compilation of several books, sermons, etc)
- Church Manual
Science and Health, her primary work, she first published and gave the world in 1875. At that time, few pulpits welcomed it, as few churches were open to healing. That, however, did not stop her from healing and teaching others to heal. Four years later, she and her pupils formed a church — The Church of Christ, Scientist, to “reinstate the primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing.” (Church Manual, p17) Its pastor is permanent — the Holy Bible and Science and Health, and these two books continue to speak God’s Word to hungry hearts and minds worldwide.
